earlier works

This body of earlier work marks the beginning of my painting practice in 2014, grounded in an exploration of pure abstraction and process-driven approaches. During this period, I worked experimentally across a range of methods and materials, allowing the process of making to guide the development of each work.
Rather than adhering to a single technique, these works emerged through continual testing, adjustment, and refinement, exploring how paint could be manipulated, layered, and structured to create movement, depth, and tension. This approach fostered an understanding of the relationship between control and unpredictability, where composition developed through both intention and response.
While non-representational, these works established key concerns that continue to inform my practice, including restraint, surface, and the accumulation of marks over time. The focus on process and material sensitivity allowed forms to emerge gradually, rather than being imposed.
This period was fundamental in developing technical skill and confidence, forming the foundation for a later shift toward figurative and concept-driven work. The emphasis on layering, tension, and spatial awareness continues to underpin my practice as it expands into more structured and resolved forms.
